Hey all!
I'm Del / WelshPixie, I'm 32 and Welsh, but I've been living in South Africa for four years now. I do love me a good rant and as soon as I've got something relevant to rant about I shall most definitely be sticking it on here!
In other 'me' stuff my hobbies are collecting domain names that do nothing much more than gather dust, blogging, photography, video games and writing. I live with seven cats, a dog and a man and my diet consists heavily of coffee and chocolate. I enjoy standing in the garden during thunderstorms and tormenting the denizens of rockpools with my prodding finger.

Anything/s particular that stands out as making SA different from the UK? Please feel free to post your links in the Member's Links forum - it is all new and quiet round here just at the moment, but we are determined to get busy and hopefully we can all network, as well as vent. Also very interested in peoples' emotional responses to things as consumers, please feel free to contribute those - even if it's just a few words. Lovely to have you here - please don't feel that you're only welcome when you feel like ranting! By the way, I have a great link for you - there's a blogger who is offering free elf illustrations - and since you're a pixie ... do visit Ziggy Shortcrust

Oh cool, thanks, I'll bookmark that Main things I've noticed making SA different to the UK: 1) Driving. In the UK, nobody undertakes you, people seldom rides your ass, and the rain does not drop the driving IQ by tens of points. People (mostly) indicate when they're turning. You never see someone driving down the hard shoulder. 2) Cinema. I ranted to you about this in GB But OH MY GOD cinema in the UK is such a 'sacred' experience and here, at least in my experience, it's treated far more socially. People walk in and out throughout the movie, people turn up 20 minutes before the movie ends, people have phone conversations. The quality / customer service is also worse, but that might just be the area I'm in - out of focus, scratched, broken speakers, mis-aligned - I've had films start up-side down, even had one get stuck and catch on fire because there was nobody in the projection room keeping an eye on it. In the UK, the projectionist stays in the box through the entire film. Over here, I think they set it up then leave. Related, I followed a couple out of the cinema yesterday and yelled at them in public for being morons - welshpixie.com/blog/2013/02/14/cinema-rage/ 3) Homeless/unemployed. I've lived in cities before so I'm no stranger to street beggars. What I don't see in the UK though are people standing in the middle of the road with 'help me' signs, kids loitering at drive-through windows begging for change, and groups of people on the roadside with the tools of their trade hoping to be picked up for work. Oh, and people going door to door asking for jobs. I'm also always amused by seeing people crammed in the backs of pickup trucks. That'd never fly in the UK
