I've had a laptop since 2007, and I've never had any problems with it. I was never a big fruitbrand fangirl but I really wanted a laptop of that brand then because I liked its user-friendly OS, its size and the quiet, easy-on-your-fingers keyboard since I have to write A LOT for uni. So yeah I've had the laptop for a bit more than 6 years now! Which is truly amazing. Never had any viruses or other problems.
BUT... I was seriously annoyed with how expensive everything was. The constant OS updates I couldn't afford (I still have their 2006 OS! haha), the expensive mouse, the two cables that went bust and cost me 50 bucks (!!!) to replace every time, and most of all the very expensive office software. I just couldn't bear it anymore. this laptop is almost double the price of a regular laptop, so I had to save my cash for a long time to get one in the first place. But little did I know what kind of costs I would have to face afterwards!
I tried to resolve the issue by buying a cheap netbook (15") last year when it was tooooo much for me and I was getting too annoyed with Open Office and the other freeware programs i installed to keep costs down. Only two days ago my cheap netbook broke, so I'm having second thoughts about my actions now. Maybe I should have saved the 230 bucks I spent on the cheap laptop so they could have gone towards a new "real" laptop of my favourite brand after all? Would have probably been more reasonable...
I felt terrible throughout the whole process because I really love my old laptop on an emotional level and felt like cheating on it (seriously) whenever using my other laptop. Even though I hated my old laptop's obvious limitations. I'm using it now to write my thesis and hope that it'll survive, because I can neither afford a new "alternative" laptop nor a new laptop of my favourite brand.
I wish I wouldn't have had to switch brands, and I hope that I'll be able to afford staying with my brand once I leave uni & earn a decent living
